The two kings - Sugar & Tiger

Last night, on the way back from feeding Shiny and having dinner, we met b/w Mimi, whom we haven't see for weeks, and Kiddy.

After giving them snacks, b/w Mimi insisted on following me about. I carried her purring body...thought I'll sit on the bench with her for a while, when suddenly, a swoosh of white fur jumped onto the bench first. I thought it must be Kiddy, but Mimi jumped off my arms and ran away!

It was Sugar. Mimi sure knows to not mess with The King~!


Sugar looks good, ate a bit of dried food and still followed me about. I lured him away to a corner where we'd first met years' ago. We have yet to move into the flat then and I'd come by to see the progress of the house painting. On the way out to the bus stop, I saw this big, white friendly cat with touches of ginger on his coat. That was how I first met Sugar.


I sat with him, brushed off the loose fur from his coat and just rested there with him, but he didn't allow me to rest for too long. He gave me a couple of gentle nips on my arm and hand to remind me to get back to work - of giving him strokes and neck scratches! Haha... so adorable!


After about 20 mins, I had to go home and shoo-ed him from following me home.


This morning, I met the other King, who lives a little further away. I hadn't see Tiger for a long while, and I heard that he's somehow become a daytime house cat in somebody's home. :)


I was carrying groceries and didn't intend to call him, but he decided to follow me... he must have smelled the cat food in my bag! So boh pian lor, had to give him some food, not that he's deprived.

While he was eating, cat-friendly neighbours stopped by to say hi and to stroke Tiger.
Waa, this king certainly has more than a few fans.


Finally, he gave me a good front view shot of him.


After eating, he still followed me about. The normally aloof fella even gave me several affectionate rubs, then decided to park himself in the middle of the passageway.


A kid on his scooter and aunties pushing trolleys of groceries had to move around his royal highness, but they didn't seem to mind, and even greeted him by name. :P

Saturday morning excitement

When we went to see the cats this morning, this was the sight that greeted us.



Oops! Kiddy and Mimi (b/w) aren't supposed to be in this territory!

They must have been a little displaced by the funeral wake that is happening at their block. There have been too many wakes for the last few days - two are currently still on, with another which just ended 2 days' ago - all next to one another.

A confrontasi was about to start!!


From what I know of them, Tabby2 and Kiddy are generally peaceful cats. I have never seen either one of them fighting, but cats being cats, when threatened, must show some "action" to ward of possible enemies.

I didn't know what had taken place earlier, but by the time I got to them, I heard Kiddy starting to hiss loudly, with hair and tail all puffed up!

The not-to-be-defeated Tabby also started vogue-ing in his "acting-bigger-than-I-really-am" pose and growled back, although he still gave me his wide-eyed innocent look when I pose my hp camera at him. Haha!



Meanwhile, the bystanders, aka Tortie Gal Mimi and Blackie were keeping quiet and watching by the sidelines. TG Mimi even ate her "popcorn" before the drama had begun.

Kiddy's sidekick, the b/w Mimi still pounced about towards us, totally nonchalant about the going-ons.



I sayang Kiddy and he started to walk away, still growling. Mimi the sidekick quickly followed her leader.

At last, confrontation averted~!

Mimi & Kiddy update

We saw Mimi yesterday, sticking close to Kiddy, who has become Mimi's de facto albeit unwilling playmate!

Poor Kiddy must have had too much from Mimi already, such that when the SO held him, Kiddy was growling!! Oh my, the sweet, affectionate and manja Kiddy is actually growling in anger!?! What a shock to us!!

We tried to pacify Kiddy and hope he would calm down. The SO put him down and true enough, Mimi went close to him to play, and immediately got a pawful from the exasperated Kiddy *Smack!* :P

We hope Mimi is learning proper lady-like feline behaviour from the very fed-up Kiddy. Heheh!

Mimi: Just like my Kiddy khor-khor, I too, have got a tipped ear!

Mimi used to play with another humm-humm "no-ear-cat" tabby, i.e. a broad-headed, unneutered male (with receded ears), who had strayed into the territory. I heard he can be dominant towards the other cats at mealtimes, but somehow, he tolerated the nonsense from the naive Mimi. We have seen the way he allowed Mimi to paw his face and body during play, and he remained rather nonchalant throughout. What a gentle cat, despite his garang looks. :-)

Speaking of community cats, we haven't seen BT for more than 2 weeks.
I suspect he might have roamed to other territories. :-(

Community cats update

It was good to to meet these cats on my way home last Wednesday. I gave them a little snack of dry cat food.

Sugar & Jon-Jon



Sugar had a bout of painful gum problem for the past weeks, and caregiver Ms A had taken him to the vet. At one point, Ms A needed our help to feed him his medication. On one night, while refusing to take his medicine, Sugar went berserk and even threw his frustration at Jon-Jon, which was shocking to us. I think he was in much pain that night to react that way.

Although he's now his usual sweet self, he's rather wary of Ms A or us, coz he thinks we may feed him with medication! We still find him very adorable. :)




I also met these cats the week before.

Kiddy who is very affectionate and gets along with most new cat that appears (now it's Mimi who loves to stick to him)



Mimi - apparently she had fever the other time (Ms A confirmed at the vet) but has now recovered.
Soon, she will be sent for spaying.




Shiny, whose eyes have recovered gradually.

We'd only managed to treat her eyes with eye drops for 5 or 6 times, coz we failed to to find her on some nights at her usual hangouts.

After a few days of treatment, her eyes were no longer red or tear as much, but the 3rd eyelid on her right eye was still quite prominent. However, it went down on its own subsequently, and Shiny's bright eyes will soon be back again.

It rained this morning, and we found Sugar snuggled in the bike basket, looking so cute that we could not resist taking a photo using the SO's handphone.



As soon as he saw us, Sugar wanted to come out of the basket.

Blackie (Oct 07)



Blackie seems to have made-up with Tabby2 and Tortie gal...or they're just tolerating each other's presence. These 3 cats would greet us in the morning on our way to work.


As usual, black cats are so very sweet.

Affectionate boy Kiddy, also known as Baby, his big wound on the left shoulder fully healed nicely. That big-holed wound (probably from a fight) incurred some $400 in medical fees!

She was so timid when we first found her (abandoned). Now she's affectionate and even allow me to carry her.


She's a really good-looking, petite tuxedo cat.

May all of them remain healthy and safe.

Goodbye Gal

Gal Gal (pron. Ger Ger) passed away yesterday morning, 11 March 2007, after the vet's attempts to save her failed.

Update on Kiddy

Kiddy aka Baby the community cat will be discharged soon. Ms A thinks his medical bill will come up to .... *hold your breath* .... more than 200 bucks!

Happenings in the community

I've been getting some mixed news about the community cats recently, but mostly not so pleasant.

#1 Neighbour S finds a new injured cat
A neighbour (who already has a cat) found this new stray/abandoned cat with a big gash on his body, could not bear not helping and took him to the vet. While worrying about not knowing what to do with the cat, she met me in the lift and somehow, vaguely remembered me as the one who cared for Sugar when he was sick. We talked and I told her about CWS' Adoption bulletin board.

#2 Kiddy aka Baby the community cat gets a big wound on his body and the interesting turn of events
This happened sometime over the CNY eve or weekend. Kiddy might have gotten into a fight and has yet another bloodied wound. I would have taken him home for recuperation if I didn't have foster cats at home right now.

Anyway, neighbour Ms A applied some antibiotic cream to the wound which Kiddy licked away.

Separately and without knowing each other, neighbour SL started applying antiseptic solution to keep Kiddy's wound clean and SMS-ed me to keep me informed.

A few days later, upon discovering Kiddy's injury, neighbour Ms J was horrified that she wants Kiddy to get immediate medical attention (by then the wound hasn't improved and looks a bit scary). Ms J asked me to call Ms A to do something, but I said I can't impose on Ms A further unless we take it upon ourselves to help Kiddy. After some thought, Ms J (who has no experience with cats and no equipment) agreed to take Kiddy to the vet. I will lend her the pet carrier and help get Kiddy into it.

With that arranged, I called Ms A to inform her so that she would not miss Kiddy during her feeding rounds. However, Ms A told me that she'd already made an appointment to take Kiddy to the vet, and suggested that perhaps Ms J can share in the medical and necessary boarding costs. So I made the suggestion to Ms J, who agreed, and then I called Ms A back to tell her the good news.

The interesting thing is that although all parties showed concern for the same community cat, Ms J and Ms A (and SL) do not know each other. I am the one connecting them. I think I should organise a cat-carers party for all to meet one day. Heh! ;-)

#3 Girlfriend called me about fostering another girlfriend's sister's stray cat
The sister has two dogs at home, so the stray cat needs to be fostered for a week until his/her sterilisation appointment. Unfortunately it's full house for me plus one on the waiting list, so I can't help there. I suggested that the cat be kept in the bathroom, perhaps or hopefully, someone else can help to foster the kitty.
