How to get adopted

Here's a great lesson for cats waiting to be adopted into permanent homes. Now if only I can get Snowy and Coco to learn from this handsome ginger cat!

On Labour day, we had a couple of friends over at our home, to hang around, take a shower after their staircase-climbing exercise, and mainly to check on my comatose computer. The cat sisters wasn't friendly initially, that is until I took out the cat treats, then they swarm around one visitor. Coco was fine, and just strutted around being her normal bochup (aloof) self, but the bimbo Snowy went to hide in (of all places) our bathroom, which is not her usual hangout. Tsk, tsk...they both have lots to learn, and I need to have more visitors at home to socialise them.

I think Sanju knew all these tips and was displaying them when the potential adopters came to view him. Incidentally, I met Sanju's papa last week, and he told me that both Sanju and Arrow are fine and healthy. I'm sure the two boys are looking good, for all the vitamin supplements they've been lovingly fed with. Also, the cats have been using ..... (*drum roll* .... & ta da!) ...the human toilet! Their mama has done a wonderful job of training the boys, so don't play play! Apparently, Sanju is super sociable and loves to mingle with guests and visitors to their home. He's a wonderful ginger boy. :)

Hor-lee-deh !

Uncle S and I are going on a much-needed holiday/vacation. The last time we went on one was in October 2005 to Bali, and we were one street away from the place that got bombed by the terrorists. :-(

Before we go, I would like to leave you with a few more photos of the happy boys - Sanju and Arrow.

Will catch up again about two weeks' later.

Ciao~!

Update from the cats' mummy:

We are in the middle of getting our balcony cat safe so that Sanju and Arrow can enjoy a bit of the outdoors (mind you the haze is not so good at the moment). We now have a lot of plants out there and we take each cat on a little excursion everyday to get used to the balcony. They want to go out every minute! It will be great for them. We've made huge frames out of PVC piping that will eventually be covered in netting. The netting is from a golf shop in the US, being just right for the outdoors and with a small weave. We'll take a pic when it's all done for you to see. We've read that netting needs to be kind of loose so that the cats don't try to climb it, as it would then feel soft and unstable under their paws.

I think we'll be monitoring them for a while until we're sure that they understand the boundaries and have accepted them. The idea is to let them go in and out of the house as they please as we have bought a special pet door that goes into a glass sliding door.

We are also training the cats to use the human toilet instead of the litter trays. They are progressing really well.

Hope you like the pics.

New photos of Sanju

Yesterday, C sent a few photos of Sanju, a cat which I'd fostered in February.
Sanju has a best buddy and playmate in Arrow, the black & white kitty who is just a few months younger than Sanju. C said that both cats groom each other, play and nap together.

What lovely news this is. :)

Sanju's update

I met Sanju's papa, F this morning. I almost did not recognise him, as he wasn't wearing his usual glasses, but he does have beautiful eyes. :)

F told me that Sanju has "mange", a kind of skin problem which results in poor Sanju losing bits of his hair all over. They had taken Sanju to the vet and F has been giving Sanju regular baths to help his condition. They suspect Sanju might have caught it from the second pet cat who may be having a fungus problem.

It's a treatable disease, and F said that both parents felt so sorry about Sanju losing his hair.

F also showed me his PDA which has a wallpaper of little Sanju doing his roar.
From the way he talks about Sanju, I could sense much love and affection that F (big burly kind of guy) has for Sanju, which is rather sweet.

F plans to get a digi camera soon, so I hope to receive photo updates of Sanju later.

Met Sanju's parents

I bumped into Sanju's parents this afternoon after lunch, and the good news they shared with me was that Sanju has grown "bak bak" (muscular) and is healthy, save for a bit of gum problem which is healing.

The better news is that they have adopted another kitten, and both kitties get along well almost from day 1.

Well, Sanju has done us proud and proven us right by being the friendly kitty that we knew he'd be.

Well done, Sanju!

Update on Sanju (adopted cat)

Monday, 10 April 2006

Today Sanju was sterilised. He's wandering around the apartment with his tail down. Poor little guy. He's still a little bit "loopy" from the anesthetic and he's a bit more quiet than usual. Just as dear though.

He's off the antibiotics now but still must have a short course of steroids to stop the inflammation that is still present on his gums.

Maybe in a week or so we'll start looking for another kitty so he'll have a playmate. Still want to make sure that he is 100% before introducing another cat to the family.

Generally he's very healthy, has put on weight and I think has grown a bit too. He's very handsome.

Best wishes,
C

Home sweet home for Sanju

Update and photos by Vegancat

Yesterday afternoon, together with Vegancat and Carol, we visited Sanju at his new home to finalise his adoption. Sanju's new mummy, C, and her mummy (Sanju's grandma?) who is visiting were both at home to meet us.

When C opened the door with Sanju perched on her shoulder, I was so happy to see Sanju that I clapped my hands in glee! Hahaa...I couldn't help it sometimes. Upon entering the home, all attention was immediately focused on Sanju, with everyone eager to talk about Sanju and ask about him. My goodness...I think we almost sounded like mothers who can talk of nothing else but their kids! :P

Sanju's eyes and flu have very much cleared up, although he is still on antibiotics treatment. He has also filled up a bit, and has become more energetic and playful than ever. His coat (with lots of soft, down hair underneath) still remains just as lovely, and which uncle S love to kiss.

Not only does Sanju have very nice, loving parents, he also has a nice home to live and run around - it's a double-storey penthouse, and I believe the aircon is usually kept running when the folks are at home. In addition to the scratching post with a hanging ball and other toys, Sanju's parents have also gotten him one big, fantastic cat tree to entertain himself with. Lucky cat!

Sanju has new fans

Email from Sanju's mummy, Wednesday, February 22, 2006 12:42 PM

Hi

Today Sanju had a visit to the vet. He was tested for Cat Luekemia and Aids and was negative on both counts! The vet has put him on some medication to help with the cat flu as the virus now has gone bacterial. He could be significantly better in as little as a week.

Generally he has really come out of his shell. We are seeing so many new and cute things in his personality. He is very vocal. He plays a lot and has a good appetite.

Hopefully he will be well enough to be vaccinated again soon and spayed.

Update on Sanju - 20 Feb 2005, PM

Thanks P. The idea with the extra litter trays is really good.

Sanju's doing great. We bought him a little ball with a bell inside and he has been going crazy playing with it. He also asks for us to join play time with him too!

We really love this little character.

Sanju settles down

Sleepy

Email update from Sanju's mummy
Sent : Sunday, February 19, 2006 3:13 PM

Dear P

Sanju settled in very well when we got him home. We kept him confined to one area like you suggested and I stayed with him there. After a lot of cuddling he eventually had a drink and a bite to eat. We played together with a string for quite a while too. He then slept for a while and I had to go to work, so Fredi took over. He poohed while I was gone in the litter box and so was upgraded to see the whole apartment where he made a new play buddy called "lid" and also did some exploring.

There was a little accident. He did pee in the wrong place yesterday evening, but I figured out why. Like you said, he's a real clean freak, and it was not until later that I realized that there was quite a lot of pooh in the litter box, (way down near the bottom), around the time he had his accident. I quickly cleaned it out and he began using it again. I noticed today that he announces when he wants to go to the toilet or eat or wants extra attention....and at that time he had just had a snack of dry food so I knew it could be a toilet call. So we walked to the litter tray together with some encouragment from me, and he went. Then I noticed him "telling" me what he'd done. Kind of like giving me my cue: "Okay, so it's your turn now to clean up!" and I did. And so far, no more accidents.

He's sleeping right now in F's work room. He likes to be near us. He's sweet and loves to be loved. Just right for a cat.

All the best
C

On uncle S's lap

Sanju goes to his new home

Yesterday (Sat, 18 Feb), Sanju went home with C and F for the trial adoption period. C looked very delighted, and they've bought a new pet carrier, which Sanju walked into on his own.

Last day at foster home

Knowing what a cool sweetie cat Sanju is, I'm sure he would have no problem adapting to his new home. C SMS a few hours later said he is doing "really well". Will post updates when I hear more from his new mummy later.
