"The Sidewalk Beauty - Stray Cats of Singapore" Exhibition

This photographic exhibition that celebrates the beauty of our own Singaporean "longkang" cats (aka drain cats) is happening on the 25 and 26 July 2008.

Click on the images for bigger view.

Donch forget we are Singapore citizens also, you know!

My scanning sux, and there's supposed to be a website address below, which says "www.straycatsofsingapore.com.sg". I tried and found that it should be www.straycatsofsingapore.com and even then the website will be officially launched only on 25 July.

Anyhow, it might be worth a visit and to buy the photo book if part of the proceeds goes to charity.

Book on cat games

After Cat Aunty mentioned it in her blog, I decided to go check out the book at Page One Bookshop (which incidentally, has become my favourite bookshop). The book is called 50 Games to Play with Your Cat, and only costs $14+ nia.

Here's Coco checking out the book.

Peeking intently at something which caught her eye... (she was pawing the pages earlier)
Maybe eyeing the handsome ginger boy?!?

Oooh, it's a game called Catnip Crazy...

Remember how spaced out Coco became after sniffing on fresh catnip leaves?

After her inspection of the book, QC officer Coco declared in all seriousness: Every cat house should have one!

Mistress Coco: I expect to see the Cat Condo built and up by the next weekend. Now, go work on it while I take a nap.

ZZZZZZZZzzzzzz...

Being the humble servant that she is, the author did not forget to thank her masters for their model contribution "in the face of distracting lights, camera, and crew" (to quote her).

Verdict: Every page of the book has full-colour pictures of real cats playing the games (important factors to me) and the games are simple to make, so for $14+ nia nia, I think it's a steal lah!

:)

Ps: I am in no way affiliated with the said bookshop, although I wish I was...coz I would love to work in a bookshop...but then money not enough!

The cat who couldn't see in the dark

This the title of another wonderful book on cats' mysterious ailments, the symptoms to look out for and how serious the ailments can be if left untreated, etc. I borrowed the book from AMK library and am down to the last five chapters.

What I found surprising (well, perhaps not so surprising) in the book are the cat owners who are so ignorant about basic cat care that they almost put their cats' lives in danger. Examples:
- a pair of fit-looking owners who put their cat on a strict vegetarian/vegan diet (the cat eats what they eat), and
- a newly graduated vetrinarian who had no idea that tri-coloured cats are almost always female.

How could this be? I thought information like cats need meat protein to live is basic knowledge among people with some interest in cats.

Anyway, this book is highly recommended. It's easy to read, and many times, the author (the vet)came across as quite a humourous guy.

Casebook on cat behaviour

I'm currently reading a very good book on cat behaviour, borrowed from the library.

Title:
Is Your Cat Crazy? Solutions from the Casebook of a Cat Therapist
- by John C Wright, PhD, with Judi Wright Lashnits.

The book cover looks like this:

Topics include:
Secrets of litter-box success; the crime of punishment; eating habits weird & wonderful; can you teach a cat good behaviour?; beware of the attack cat; top cat, bottom cat: challenges of the multiple-cat household; life-styles of stressed-out felines, among others.
