Coco meets Sophie :)

Sophie arrived yesterday evening, and as I sat on the floor in the cat room, Coco must have forgotten there is a new cat in the house, and approached me confidently...then suddenly stopped in her tracks to check Sophie out!

Furry Encounter from Po P on Vimeo.

Update:
Immediately after she arrived, Sophie (the name I gave her) wasted no time in devouring the kibbles. She wasn't afraid at all; she was friendly, purring all the time and did the knead-front-paws dance. She was also quiet during the night. :)

By this morning, she still hadn't use the litter bin, so I swop hers with Coco's bin, hoping to send her a "stronger" message. Until she's learnt to use the clumping litter, I've to keep her in the cage, with regular breaks out of the cage to explore the cat room under close supervision.

Both cats seemed curious about each other, and I caught Coco taking occasional peeps into the cat room. So far, Coco seems unperturbed by the newbie's presence, and still behaves normally. The most surprising thing was there was no hissing at each other at all, except for a short snarl from Sophie at the SO when he tried to carry her suddenly.

At about 2.15pm, Sophie finally pee-ed in the litter bin, so she's now let out of the cage and free to nap around in the cat room. Photo updates coming up soon. :)

Oh, by the way, I discovered Sophie loves to dip her paws into the drinking bowl to splash out the water! I hope that means she enjoys bathing! Heheheh...

Is she a 大陆猫?

HRH now seems to despise her once-favourite Fussie Cat tuna with salmon, although she still eats some of the other flavours. Her current favourite of the month is this:

Photobucket
Tom & Pus *whisper - made in PRC* *Sshhh...*

She likes it so much that she's even willing to eat it cold (straight from the fridge).

>_<"

Sometimes, she likes to supplement her diet by catching her own food, which we prohibits as far as possible.

{Chinese translator: 大陆猫 (da4 lu4 mao1) means "cat from the land of PRC (i.e. 大陆)}

Coco's Breakfast Dance

From the moment I got up from bed, she was doing it, starting from the bedroom all the way to the hall.

Maybe she does it to entertain us.

Fireworks from the window

The Fireworks Festival 2008 was held over two nights on Fri and Sat (luckily no rain). The fireworks show was longer and higher, giving me a chance to capture more footage from the window. :P

Here's a compilation of what I tried to anyhow capture with my hand-held camera, plus lots of distraction from Coco who kept rubbing against me for attention and poking her head out through the window grille to look down! *roll eyes*

More Cat Shananigan

Sneaking up onto freshly-washed blanket...my blanket, that is!

I'd left the freshly-laundered blanket on the bed, just nice for Coco.

Very snug and comfy, hor?

And on a Sunday morning...

(Video will be available after processing by YouTube, which is taking unusually long tonight...)

Coco does the matatabi dance

The matatabi came in the post with other kitty presents, thanks to KSN. ;)

Photobucket

I didn't know what it was, but Coco taught us what it is soon enough!

Photobucket

Ahh...so it is interesting stuff... Coco likes it... a lot!

Photobucket

That she punctured a hole in the package.

Photobucket

Even then, we didn't know what the matatabi is capable of...until one night, we gave it to Coco.

We realise it can make Coco do the matatabi dance!

Matatabi facts : [click link for more info.]
Long ago the Japanese people discovered that the leaf of the Matatabi vine drives cats crazy. When put into toys, cats play with them excitedly, slobbering, writhing, and dancing about in a strange state of heightened alertness. The herb induced performance is called the Matatabi dance. The dance is similar, but more extreme, to that which occurs when cats are exposed to catnip. Research has established this peculiar feline reaction is caused by volatile oils found in the leaves. Matatabi is more than a source of fun, it is used as a health stimulant for sick cats. As an infusion or powder, it is used to speed the recovery of ailing felines.

Buy buy buy!

Although Coco is walking fine with the walking jacket, she is still very timid and will run back into the apartment whenever she hears any noise of folks coming and going, even if they aren't coming to our floor. As a result, her walk can be shortened suddenly, yet I still have to brush her or wipe her down with a damp towel after the short walk.

The other thing is, I get bored just standing there or having to follow her about as she decides where she wants to go and how long she wants to spend sniffing at a particular spot or object.

So, now that she knows the orientation of the corridor and the direction of our gate, I shall have to get one of those extendable and retractable leash. Then Coco will get to roam about the corridor while I can tend to the plants, or sit at the gate to keep an eye on her. :)

Coco takes a walk (Wednesday)

...really!

I guess that means she's graduated from walking jacket training. ;)

We still don't like the way she kept rolling on the floor outside, though. *Haiz...*

Walking Jacket Training Part 3 (Saturday)

Last night, I put the walking jacket on Coco.

She climbed onto the deck chair and refused to move. Ya, she climbed, not jumped.

Photobucket

I tried to lure her with the crab slice treats from Cat Aunty, but even that failed to tempt her. Coco simply refused to budge!

Photobucket

I removed her from the chair and put her on the floor.

Photobucket

She finally started to walk, but in a funny, slinky kind of way...

Photobucket

This was what happened next.

Walking jacket training part 2 (Tuesday)

I think there is some improvement over yesterday lah!

:)

Despite her "ordeal", Coco did not hate me.
She was purring at me when I checked in on her as she snuggled cozily in her cat bed. What a sweetie!

Chinky says: I not 'toopid

This is Chinky, a rescued cat whose papa said has got the gong gong look.

Chinky lives with 2 other cats - Mei Mei (Siamese-cross) and Mi-Ni (tabby gal) who joined his household later.

Coco's pre-dinner ritual

Does your cat do what Coco does?

And that action of hers...what does it mean?

<

The cat-sitter's young daughter is always very amused by it, and it was she who pointed out this unique action of Coco to me.

Coco & the walking jacket

I've always been impressed and amazed by the way San has successfully trained her cats to walk on leashes using the walking jacket, and thought of trying it out with Coco. Coco had dashed out of the gate on a couple of occasions, so I thought it may be good to let her explore the outside safely on a leash.

San was very kind to let me borrow a walking jacket which Toro had previously worn to try on Coco. As I was on leave, I went to visit San to collect the walking jacket, and I'm very glad to have met her and her 5 cats! Rocket Tanaka (for adoption) is a friendly, innocent boy, while the others (Akira, Megat, Toro and Bujang) gradually came out of the bedroom to meet me, and allowed me to sayang them. It must be my lucky day. :))

Here's Coco checking out the walking jacket...guess she didn't yet know what she would be in for.

Like San said, the jacket looks good on her! :)

The first try - the jacket was velcro-ed too loosely, and in her bid to "escape", she managed to get her two front paws through the collar.

Here's the 2nd try, when I tightened the velcro at the collar and around the body. Hehe!

ps: the camera was shaking at some point because I was trying to stifle my giggling.

After that trial, I let Coco off her ordeal, and she ran to hide under the bed and refused to come near me...that is, until I took out her wet food dinner lah!

:)
